Enrich your holiday with a traditional experience at the Samoa Cultural Village, the village that has charmed many visitors from all over the world. Located within the Samoa Tourism Authority compound, the village is made up of smaller areas that capture the different aspects of Samoan traditions and lifestyle, including ‘Ava ceremony, Umu cooking, traditional Tatau (tattooing), handicraft making and more.
Get first hand insight into the local way of life with the ‘Ava (Kava) ceremony. A key Samoan traditional ritual, the ceremony is performed to mark important occasions in the community, such as Matai title bestowal. On your visit, however, you will be invited to join the ‘Ava ceremony to welcome you to the village, and to indulge in the delicious local treats thereafter.
Unleash your artistic side as you participate in the handicraft making activities in the village, from headband weaving to plate-making.
Indulge your senses with the indigenous Umu cooking demonstration on Thursdays. Learn how the locals embrace nature in their cooking process with the use of coconut shells, leaves, wood, stones and fire to bring out the vibrant and earthy flavours of Samoan delicacies.
Local performers will then take your breath away with traditional dances, much like the Fia Fia show at the resort, whilst they proudly display the traditional Samoan attire. The village also showcases traditional Samoan clothing, such as the Puletasi and Lava-Lava amongst many.
Whilst your entry, lunch, and activities are free of charge, donations are welcome and considered the polite thing for tourists to do. The Samoa Cultural Village is open from Monday through to Thursday, and is only about 35 minutes away from the Sheraton Samoa Beach Resort.
